Overall, this game just kicks so much ass, and is one of the best 2D platformers I have ever played, and I can't recommend it enough to those looking for a fun, beautiful, and fleshed out game that offers so much awesomeness. I like how there are a lot variations of it, and since each of them are fun, I'm always down to play one of the same ones again. Same with the bonus rounds where you pick up bananas for an extra puzzle piece. The boss battles are fantastic as well, as they each have a ton of variety and are all fun. And after playing the original Donkey Kong Country for the SNES after playing this game, I noticed that some of the music in that game make an appearance here with an updated sound, which is just awesome. The music in this game is great, as it has a ton of variety, and fits every level almost, if not perfectly. This is great to see here for beginners or for someone wanting to play this game a fun new way than what they played in the normal mode. What's awesome about this mode is that you get more hit points and much more abilities if you're Funky Kong. But, thanks to the Switch version of this game, this is made much less difficult thanks to the added funky mode, which is where you play as Funky Kong (or Donkey Kong if you want). I never blamed the game for the amount of times I died, and thanks to the excellent level design, I had a blast perfecting the challenges that I faced. However, unlike other rage inducing games, the game never feels unfair.

One thing to note is that some of these levels are infuriatingly difficult. Speaking of, the levels are also another highlight, as each one of them are very well designed and all look and play extremely well. Second, the gameplay is amazing, as Donkey Kong and Funky Kong both feel like a joy in each level. Everything about this game just looks beautiful. First, the visuals are crisp and beautiful, popping with color and vasts amount of detail. But this game is fantastic in every way I want it to be. I honestly wasn't expecting much with this game, as I never played a DKC game beforehand, and because of this, I was a bit skeptical on how good a 2D platformer can be, since I don't play a lot, aside from most 8 bit and 16 bit games of course. The eShop removal, though, is yet another sign that when it comes to purely digital games, there's no guarantee that what's available one day will be available the next.(I'm reviewing the Nintendo Switch version)

The Wii U version of Tropical Freeze is still being sold as a new physical disc at the bargain price of $20 (compared to $60 for the Switch re-release), so new players still have access to the original version of the game. While legal issues like music rights sometimes force games off of digital storefronts, there's little reason to think such issues affect a wholly original first-party game from Nintendo.

Users who previously purchased Tropical Freeze on the Wii U report they are still able to re-download the game through the "Your Downloads" history page, so the digital files haven't disappeared entirely from Nintendo's servers (unlike sought-after PS4 horror demo P.T.'s removal from PSN, for instance). Games like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are still available for Wii U download, even though new versions of both games are also available on the Switch. worth hundreds on eBayTiming aside, it's odd that Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze would be removed from the Wii U eShop at all. And while there are scattered reports that the game has returned to the eShop today, Ars has confirmed it is not available either via the website or the Wii U's own online store as of press time. Captures from the Internet Archive show the "Buy Digital" option for Tropical Freeze on Nintendo's website disappeared sometime between Octoand February 25, 2018, suggesting Nintendo made this move well ahead of Friday's Switch re-release. While Reddit user bgold101 alerted the Internet at large to the Wii U version's online removal on Monday, the title appears to have come down well before that. Surprisingly, though, Wii U owners who want to purchase that original version of the game can no longer do so through Nintendo's North American online eShop.
